If anyone needs good collimators for the diodes please tell me now because I will be ordering a couple with BLUE AR coating. Normally only the collimators with RED AR coating are on stock.

Since some of the people on the forum are probably wondering where people are getting these diodes from: http://cgi.ebay.com/500mW-Blue-Laser...QQcmdZViewItem

At $470 they're a pretty good buy. Two left now - they'll probably be gone soon.

I'm just posting it to save myself from buying them :P

I hate to put a damper on this thread, but I have given the 2 diodes a fairly good test today, and they are certainly not in the same class as the Nichia 500mw diodes. The divergence of these is roughly double, the 2 Nichias we have here..

Hmm.. that’s not good news. Can you show some pictures of the diode’s in action?

BTW: They are all sold now

With a couple of aspherics i have here

4.5 x 1 mm beam at aperture, with 3.5mrad divergence. With a longer focal length lens, 5.5 x 1mm with 2mrad I forget the exact lenses I used..

I think 2mrad is still usable ( compares pretty closely to a chinese dpss ), but no way as good as what I net out of the Nichia 500mw's using the same lenses

That sounds like these diodes were built using a cheaper production process than the Nichias, possibly for consumer laser (pico-)projectors. Right now, the diode is too expensive for my liking.

If that's the case, the beam specs may be a little less superb than the expensive Nichias, but these 455's may drop in price quickly as projector production ramps up. Same as what happened with Blurays about 1,5 years ago.

Which leads me to the conclusion that we could have cheap, VISIBLE blue on the horizon in the near future.

    Strange conclusion.

How many bluray players and burners do you think are pruduced every day, and how many lasershow projectors are produced every day.

    Hello,
when i look at the picture of this diodes i wonder about the huge amount of
indium which has been used to mount the diode chip to the TO can.
I'm not shure, but as fare as i know they are using Au/Sn solder for
the production - maybe this diodes are from post production ???

Does someone has a picture of an original series production 500mW nichia ???

    greetings,
    marco
