Default Recent batch of 450nm 500mW laser diodes made available on YKW ...

    Hi there,

Upon clicking BIN, I started documentation lecture and noticed that the actual electrical specs for mentioned diodes look somewhat lower than assumed manufacturer data

NDB7112E threshold should be about 120mA, while these diodes are claimed at 200mA
Also slope effeciency is graphed lower (1.2W/A) than the table predicts (1.3W/A).

May these diodes be the weakest selection from the larger purchased amount ?
Also I noticed Nichia no longer offers NDB7112E samples or even preliminary specs ...

    Disturbing ...

And finally - does anyone know what are the GaN emitter dimensions in these 500mW MM ?

DrLava vouches for them, but refused to provide me any additional info when I asked him over chat. My diode should be here Monday or Tuesday, so I will try and provide results ASAP.

I am still quite doubtful on these diodes, but I guess if they are actually 500mW 455nm diodes, it is well worth it.

Ben, that is a mis-characterization of our conversation, I didn't refuse anything, I told you a lot of info and that all tests were not complete.

The sheet is right, the lasing threshold is 200mA. I also found it off that nichia no longer lists the NDB7112E for general sampling. Perhaps they have a new model that is as of yet unreleased.

    Here's a closeup.
The dimensions can be approximated by taking the relative feature sizes of a standard 5.6mm casing.

Thanks for the pic....that will help some. I will have to go out again to the site and check a few things prior to 1rst shift showing up. I will get something for you soon.....will try and get in software tonight and get you squared up.

Hey dave, didn't they send you one of these a while ago? Any suggestions for us building them up?

We bought a couple of the 500mw's a while back.. A simple aspheric lens is all thats needed really..

Really? Just an aspheric for a collimated beam? That's awesome since these are multimode.. What kind of beam diameter and divergence are we talking?

    Question

    Hey Dave

What Lens did you use and where did you get them from?

I was going to buy the ones from mccarrot (http://store.laserextreme.nl) but I’m not going to pay 200 euro for shipping to Australia for a couple of lenses and mounts totaling 134 euro!
