Default Best Webcam for Lasercam ?

    Hi all,

Since i want to bring the Lasercam software to the UKLEM Surfleet meet i am in need of a good but reasonably priced webcam that works well with Lasercam. Does anyone have any tips for a nice but usable webcam ? I now use a webcam emulator (which is great fun on chatroulette hahaha, but that's another story).
    I didn't fail !
I just found out 10,000 ways that didn't work.

Hmm, why would you be on chatroulette

Anyways, I have found that the "Eye toy" for playstations work quite well as webcams, and they are very cheap!

I am oging to buy 4 of those once the seller responds.

The eyetoy is good but there are no drivers for 64bit windows, so I cant use one myself.

Yeah, I read about that today

Luckily I still use 32bit, but it's a bit of a pain. I guess it depends on what hobbybob uses.

Hi, piotr suggested a microsoft hd cam:

I think it depends on what you want for camera interface and low light capability. With good lighting even a $5 webcam will do. That is what the demos were made with.

Caution, the VGA micro$oft lifecam VX-2000 is a worthless lemon under XP-SP2, the camera works, and DR Lava's software is fantastic, but you cannot adjust anything in the camera or run the M$ lifecam software. M$ own software does not recognize its own camera, but Lasercam does. Not to mention horrible barrel distortion in the camera lens.

Looking forward to ordering a 8$ webcam off fleabay, 24$ shot to hell, because to open the box, you need to trash the box. Also be warned you need a net connection to download the M$ camera software, the included CD is just a wrapper for a web download, ie a OEM versionb of Silverlight.

It will work well enough for the demo tomarrow.

Please note that Dr Lava's software was easily flexible enough to work with the lame camera, this is NOT a complaint about Lasercam, just the M$ camera.

lol that's strange I thought MS would have done it the other way around, ie, the camera only works with their software

I have 32 Bit windows 7 on my laptop and 64bit Vista (soon to be 7 as well) on my desktop.
Cool you have a cam Andy.

I am now installing the latest software (just installed Lasercam 1.0.8 on my laptop) and then eat, packup and go to Francesco's...

    See you friday...

I will suggest Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

    http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webca.../dp/B000RZQZM0

It comes with HD resolution as well although that requires at least some dual-core processor. I use one and plan to buy another one home.
