    Default GWOW.... Rods from God...

I am typing this from a new work computer. Got it at noon today. At 07:55 Eastern, this morning, lightning hit our building. Its too bad its inside a secure area, or I could show you the white plasma streamer from the hit location, 60 feet away, running down my hallway. We have security camera video, right before about 5 of the ten cameras failed, you can see plasma all over the place, and the outside is lit up in a level of IR that is unimaginable.

For some reason I decided to sleep in a little late this morning and was not here for "A view to a Kill". (oh wait, that reason was I worked till 8 last night getting a crash project out")

No one was in the building, or in the parking lot, although normally folks would have been here.

Steel building, and the servers, phones, and half the computers are just gone.

I unplug my gear every night, lesson learned from the university, but I left the laptop in to gather the nightly files that come from the strange recesses of the manufacturing world. So no lab losses, just downtime as the systems come up. And yes, we have outside backup.

I just pried a hard drive out of a laptop that had a smoldering, smokey, lingering charge in it at 10 AM. I recovered the files, Sony mounts its drives in a tough Faraday shield
inside the unit and the serial ATA had a low capture cross section, so I was able to pull the files off.

You ought to see the perfectly deposited copper vaporized onto the insides of the plastic in the routers. Looks like you could shove it in a co2 and use it as a mirror.

Temporary cables line the halls as I type.

I used to work in a lightning prone building, but this was awesome.

God certainly showed us who is Boss.

Sounds very very impressive. Fortunately no one was hurt. I have been within 50 ft, more or less, of lightning strikes on two or three occassions, all of which were outside. Definitely makes you sit up and take notice! Nothing like what you describe though.

Steve,is there any facet of technology that you aren't familiar with? LOL!
Hopefully someday we'll be able to tap in via usb and a shower cap to knowledge and experience such as I find here!
Didn't they make a movie about that,say,,,20 years ago?
