She's more of a commentator than a true "newscaster", but I have to admit that this clip hits the mark pretty much dead-on.
BP (or more probably, it's subcontractors) should have had better quality control procedures in place with regard to the blow-out preventer's condition prior to it being placed on the sea floor. It's bad enough when you screw up at 200 ft, but when you're more than a mile down, it's really hard to recover from a mistake.
Also, I retract my previous statement re: Obama's involvement. Turns out he *is* claiming to be "trying to solve the problem". Which seems damn odd to me, since I didn't think he had any drilling experience.
Though in fairness, he also accepted responsibility for the failure, which seemed rather honorable considering that the work on this well was planned, permitted, and initiated before he became president.
Now if they could just get the damn well cemented...

Top kill has failed apparently.
What would happen if they just injected water down the choke and kill lines? We already know what happens when natural gas meets cold sea water at that pressure (hydrates form), question is would the process be fast enough to gum up the holes in the valve gear?
I am amazed by the speed with which this has degenerated into partisan political finger pointing, that should really be left until after the engineering problem has been solved and the clean up is in hand.
Not that our lot are any better, I watched a debate in the commons once, it reminded me of a playgroup.
Regards, Dan.
What amazes me is they refuse to publish the tech data, so no outsiders can really help them.
