Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.
Amen.
Maybe we could open up a message board where we can lock up all of the 'Allens' posting videos, and scream OMGNOESMPE!!!one all of the time.
Or we could all just try to get along and know that there have been little to no incidents caused by *properly* thought of lasershows in the past 25+ years people have been doing them.
Russian suckers who deliberately use a system for an unintended purpose, or idiots waving 300mW pointers at a festival, don't count. They're doing it wrong, and aren't trying to justify it here.
it is all explained here...

looks like we may have another "laserscope modification finished" thread
You guys know me...Im always trying to figure out how to profit from situations.
Here is a thought andy...you could open a "white cane concession" at your "shows"
see...im always thinking![]()

So now you can't argue anymore that a video does not show if a laser show is safe or not so you now try to make an associations to another guy you did'nt like.
Clearly your motivation for all this effort is not in the name of safety, let's see now, I have to look back at your website to see what it could be.
I wonder what I did, is it that I offered to sell laser mirrors and gratings, offer to sell housings for laser diodes, lenses and drivers far less price than your yours?
Oh I didnt buy a replacement Rod from you and you got pissed, I got it from your competitor, maybe its that. Business is business he was 50% lower price than you.
You should realy rap it up and try and enjoy your life a bit instead to go out of your way to upset so many others, that is the reality of what you are doing.
I have stuck up for Andy before but this is how I see this whole thing:
The power is the key question. Why is that question left unanswered or carefully avoided? Those beams look bright as hell - even with stage lighting on. I know what my 250mW red looks like that size beam and the dancers lasers looked just as bright. Maybe it is just how it looks in the video....then again maybe not. Whatever the new technology is might be secret but the power levels are power levels. Knowing what power those are would make it much easier to debate if that show was safe or not.
Maybe that show was perfectly safe. What I question is posting a video like that and inspiring someone to try and duplicate the effect and blinding people. If that was a safe show - then explain what makes it safe. An inspirational artistic video is very cool, but unless you give some idea of how your show was perfectly safe, you run the risk of someone with no knowledge of your technology trying to imitate it.
If I had done a show like that, the FIRST thing I would want to do is explain how I made it a safe show.
Imitation is the best form of flattery, but inspiring someone and then finding out they blinded people might make it very hard to sleep at night.
Sorry Andy, but I am going to take Pat's side on this debate until there are more facts.

Assumptions is the mother of all fuckups.
He could have turned the power down to 10mW, you don't know.
He could have set the divergence of the lens to 20mRad, you don't know.
He could have used a special driver with a 10% duty cycle, you don't know.
So please don't accuse people without knowing the facts.
