There is no warning sign on the product I suspect. I think it is, what it is called a "green projector" with a "hybrid lighting source", half laser / half LED. I think nobody at casio thought about the possibility PL and LF people would split the beamer into pieces and harvest the diodes from the unit ;-))) Pretty cool and 5 thumbs up for the possibility !!!

Ah, but CD and DVD drives have had to comply with CDRH rules for years and the output of the laser is never even seen. Just seems like the rules have just been ignored or extremely tweaked.

I don't care anyway! I'd rather have the diodes!!!!

    Something just smells fishy though.

Could you do a run with a TEC mounted on it, if you have one?

Anyway, this is a huge development. Finally, we have good visible blue for even less $/mW than the Blurays...

Guess the 445nm diode production HAS ramped up. Time to bin those RGV projectors once and for all.

Does the Casio come with the red light source as LED, or do they have a 642nm laser in there as well? I do recall some pico-projectors having 642nm as a red source.

Too bad I don't have any cash reserves right now, or I would be in the GB. Ah well, if we keep doing these projector salvagings, some eBay seller will probably pick up and put the diodes on sale for $65 each. Not perfect, but better dan $450 a pop.

However I think the ebay guy ripped one of the 2500 lumen units apart. That would explain why he was so shady on details on what they were, because he didn't really know!

Oh well. Kudos to the guy for being so fucking smart.
    hey I called it

Judging by the following picture, it looks as though these are run in serial. I would be interested to know whether or not any additional electronics are involved between the diodes.

I'm wondering if the laser assy could not be bought as a replacement part. That should be cheaper than ripping apart the whole projector.

I might actually make some enquiries with the Casio distributor tomorrow, as we do warranty work for them where I work

    Thumbs up

Hmm 2 months ago 445nm was expensive
1 month ago everyone was happy with $470 for each diode
    Yersterday it was around $40.
Next week we might get them for even less

And now we have to tell casio they must add 640nm diodes in their videoprojectors !

    1x640nm 500mw diodes for 20$ !

    (a dream maybe..)
