Split the vag beam, send 3/4 of it to a dye cell (Or use a raman shifter).

Hey, you know that might actually work, 18W or so of blue (all those mirrors), maybe 10W of red and 10W of green.

Bit big and heavy, and with really ropey beam specs, but hey, 25W or so of (admittedly Q switched) white from a 32A single phase supply....

Actually I wonder if you could stokes shift the blue to red, pump beam quality would be a serious problem, as threshhold tends to be high but it just may be possible.

    Regards, Dan.

take part of the green and pump the dye

    laserman532 on ebay

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.

The "better" companies use 2x500mW nichia to build 1W 445nm to get better beam specs.

    18 + 10 + 10 is a bit more than 25W ?

    1064nm.

i mean, it works with blu-ray, and thats almost invisible

True, but you have to allow for quite a few losses.

The combining dicros have to survive large Q switched pulses which probably means that you have to expand the beams from the KTP and the dye, combine everything and then telescope it back down, which equals a lot of surfaces to soak up the light.

Also there is probably not the space on a 'scope optical bed to do the diode shuffle there, (By the time you have the dye laser components and the beam splitters on there) so you are into more optics to bring the blue to the red and green.

It would rate as a very silly thing to build in some ways, but I suppose it has a certain WTF cool! factor about it.

Actually a more interesting question is if there is a red or green laser medium with a pump band that is a good match for the 445 blue... Blue being cheap enough now that using it to pump a red or green could be interesting is a suitable gain medium exists (maybe one of the normally argon pumped dye chemistries).

    New thread time methinks....

    Regards, Dan.
