    Default Casio A130 Projector $699.96

I've read that there is supposedly a shortage or discontinued fear
about the Casio A140 Projector... Not sure about the A130...

I just found the A130 at Staples... Not sure if Staples sells all over
the Globe... but they have a special time limited price for another
4 days... and in Canada (I'm sure of) the shipping is FREE.....

$699.96 CND at today's exchange rate that is

    $674.98 USD
    $464.64 GBP
    $674.85 EUR

    http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...ead+Projectors

Just thought I'd share.... Don't know what you guys can get them for...

Well I as a rule....use the regular retail price ($1000.00)
and divide that by 4 to get an approximation of the actual
    costs to the Manufacturer...
All the other cost got to the middlemen and final seller... IMO
Don't forget... to stay in a profitable business...
    1) the people supplying the raw parts need to make a profit
    2) the designer/manufacturer needs to make a profit
    3) every middleman needs to make a profit
    4) the seller to the retailer (you) needs to make a profit...

And that is if there is no special price to liquidate the overstock..
Then a few people down the line will make a little less profit but
won't be stuck with unsellable overstock product...

I'd be very surprised if they stop selling the product or at least don't replace it with another improved model the same. Since these diodes were found inside they must be selling shed loads of this model. If I was a Casio boss I'd be ramping production.

For the volumes they would be looking to sell to keep the line afloat, the laser related sales for teardowns are smallfry.

IDK.... on PL there were only about 10-12 Projectors bought....IIRC
and less than that on LPF and none on LEC...

I don't see that Casio needs to worry about stepping up production
for an extra 20-30 projectors sold...IMO

Although... I don't know how many projectors that Wicked Lasers
    bought...

Casio may need to do something about the easy LD extraction if it
    becomes an issue for them.

Whether or not it would be an issue would depend on a few different factors, not the least of which is the cost of implementing an altered design. Also, it depends on just how big the safety impact of these diodes becomes. Laser geeks are kind of a small minority of the population, so even with possible collateral damage the number of people affected is quite small even now. This could change soon however, with more mainstream techie sites like gizmodo spilling the beans. Personally I would think that there would have to be an incident of some sort before Casio would change things on these projectors.. if then. There might be changes made in future designs though.
