Someone wrote it wont run the diode at full power... so what is the max. output using the 445 Diodes with Die4Diode@5V ?

I had the same question and this is what Robin had to say....
"The limit of 5V is on the DRV pad. (there is a 5.6V zener which will cook if you feed more than 5.6V into the DRV pad) The supply pin (labelled +5V) is a legacy from the original driver build standard. When designed the 445nm and BluRays were not around.
For 445nm @ 750mA you need to feed +6V to 7V into the +5V PAD (yeah I know!) Also you need to set the highest current range by cutting J2 and J3.

The original driver was set up by linking SET to DRV. Since SET is internally connected to the +5V pad if the +5V pad is at +7V it should NOT be connected directly to DRV. It is possible to run in CW mode (or set up
mode) by putting a 1k resistor between SET and DRV. Now the Zener will act as a 5.6V reference on the modulation input.

You can monitor the current by looking at the voltage on the MON pad with
    respect to GND. 1mV = 1mA current."

Default Also tinkering with Die4Driver V1.2

KGB...Well....since I am also currently tinkering with a Die4Driver V1.2 to power up the 445....B4 You posted...I upped the Voltage to 8.5VDC ( Leader-regulated Lab Supply)....and yes...the Q1 starts to get HOT....but mW output of A130 LD starts to climb...up to 800mW on LB II....so....

You say put a 1K resistor between set and drive pad....and then QI will NOT cook ???? OK...will do...I will try this ...and report back !!!!!! THANX !!!!!!!

Currently I am getting set up to experiment with both Anamorphic Prisms (ordered BEFORE the Cylindrical lenses were available ) and Cylindrical lenses....Really just for the learning experience...because I think Dr.Lava's " Blue Lava Module" is a perfect offering !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanx again...CDBEAM and Terrawatt

In my setup I run a casio diode with a d4d up to full power without problems.
    See post 36: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...524#post155524

    Supply voltage = 7.5V
    Modulation input: 0-5V
    J2 and J3 are cut.
Set to 1A diode current, can go higher.
Q1 does get warm so its screwed to a heat sink (electrically isolated) and it is fine.

    Two components were replaced.
A large capacitor to meet the higher supply voltage spec.
    And D1 was replaced.
Don't know the part numbers but I can look them up.

i use the d4l blu-ray driver to power my 445 diode and i can get it to well over 1watt.

i use standard 5v for modulation without any problems

    Default Back top Electronics 101

Well...I tried the 1K resistor between the SET and DRV pad....well...unless I screwed it up ??? How can ya do that ???... That did not work for me....Q1 gets hot anything over 7.1 VDC input.....
As to replacing D1 and one of the resistors....need more details....I am SURE Robin loves us hacking his nicely built driver !!!

If anyone has an extra FlexmodeN2 they would sell ??? or a D4D set up for blueray ??? I would gladly purchase that...The new P3 has not hit the street yet..... Impatience is a terrible thing !! AND...ya know...all this experimenting with the 445's has put me into a mindset that it is enjoyable and possible to experiment with the " heart " of any projector....!!! So for now.....mmmm....Terrawatt needs a good walk...and she gets a real kick outa biting at lawn sprinklers !!!!!

Default Remember the Tocket Contest ?

YES, Borrowed from the "Tocket Contest: Guess when this 658nm will crap out "....And I took a swag and got " Closest to the pin " haha

The 1k resistor is only to run the drive CW from a higher voltage supply without frying the D1 clamp, Q1 will be dissipating in the region of 3W with a 7.5V supply and 1A diode current, is your driver on a heatsink?
This snip is from the modification to BR or 445nm drive info Robin put together, the tant cap also needs to be rated higher than the supply voltage and I guess your one must be, if it's not imbedded in your forehead.. :

The easy way to tell if it was intended for BluRay is to look at R3.
If R3 = 22k (2202 or 223 marked on body then it is a standard driver)
If R3 = 47k (4702 or 473 marked on body then it is a BluRay variant)
Early BluRay drivers were only intended for 150mA out so R12 was changed from 1R (marked 1R00 or 1R0) to a 10R cylindrical type.
Later BluRays were built using R12=1R to allow them to go to just short of 1A.
Standard drivers can all be modified for BluRay by changing R3 to 47k and Changing D1 from a BAV99 to a BZX84C5V6.

Default Hi Hi Ho...off ta work I go

Simon...THANX !! I guess I will go diving into driver electronics...but for now gotta go ta work...but....R3 IS a 2202....and the driver is bolted to a 25mm thick Aluminum 200mm x 200mm plate...THAT should suck some heat !!.I guess I will go on a hunt for a new R3 and D1
Thanx for your help !!! Bob
