    Default Diode pinout?

Ok, I may have a diode here that is neither green nor red, and I'm not sure of the pinouts now the handy pictuire that was posted has been removed.

So, if I'm looking at the rear of the diode, with the short pin at the bottom in the middle, which is +ve and which is -ve?

    Cheers in advance!

Can you confirm which is +ve and -ve for me. I keep googling it and the pages I read keep giving me conradicting information. Maybe I am just tired and overlooking things!

If you read the wikipedia entry it explains that the Anode is positive if the item is supplying the current, but negative if receiving it. This would make sense as even though most pieces of equipment are labelled + for you to connect the positive to, this would in fact be the cathode if proper +ve to -ve connections are to be maintained... that probably doesn't make sense, but it does to me - think series wiring, +ve to -ve, like lining up batteries.
