    Question aluminum base board

where does everyone on here get their aluminum base board?
i have called several hardware stores and none of them have anything like that.
how thick do people normally get the base plate to be?
and is aluminum the only thing people use thanks for any info. God bless.

Good question! Generally 1/4" 6061 alloy aluminum is good as a baseplate for a small projector. It allows for a rigid and (hopefully) flat baseplate along with limited thermal flexing and it also makes a good heatsink. I don't have a local supplier of aluminum myself so I usually buy my aluminum off of ebay or from my friend who owns a local machine shop.

Here is a decent seller... http://cgi.ebay.com/1-4-250-Aluminum...item35a9123c1b

Flexes too much for optical use. 1/4" should be your minimum for anything optical.

There is a place here in Orlando called Skycraft. They are a surplus store. They have a website and sell mail order, but it wouldn't be cost effective after shipping costs. Check your area for surplus stores too. They are freat for everything you need to build a projector.
