    Default Power supply question

I'm starting my first projector build and I'm curious about power supplies. Hypothetically speaking, If the combined draw of the diodes is 2.5A, how much of a margin should I leave for the rest of the hardware (i.e. galvos, amps, drivers etc)? I do realize that this will vary depending on the products used but I'm hoping someone can give me a ballpark estimate for the average, modest projector. A 3A supply would be sufficient for the the diodes, but what would be a safe estimate for adding in the rest of the components? Thanks -Luke

You should be able to get the current draw or power (in Watts) and voltage specs for each unit you need to power. Once you have this info, list it here. There are also some great threads discussing power supplies (including a recent one I started). So have search around and see if that helps too

If you want a single PSU then you'll need one that can provide all the different voltages for all the kit (5V for DPSS, 5+V for the diodes, 12-24 +- V for galvos, etc)

As galvos will come with their own PSU usually, and most bought modules with a PSU, I would just focus on what you need for the parts you'll be building. Not having 'all your eggs in one basket' is preferable. For safety reason they often recommend having separate X/Y galvo PSU's, but with Chinese scanner sets this is not common.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
