    i have used these diodes alot, darker side of red granted but very tight beams can be achieved with them.

    with regards to the other GB for the 638nm diodes. they are alot brighter but i suppose it all comes down to your budget. if you can afford the other diodes then you will buy them, if not these are the diodes for you.

    these are in a 5.6mm can and are single mode. so no fancy lens/optics are required. just screw a lens in and away you go.

    After a bit of research I believe that those diodes are actually SHORT-die open can diodes. The ones Andy is selling here are long-die open can, the difference being about 60mW pulsed maximum rating. The long-die diodes have a pulse rating of 400mW, CW rating of 150mW.. Oddly enough it seems that the short-die diodes in that ebay auction have a slightly higher CW rating than the long-die diodes.
