Cool Build in progress: Laser Brick

    Hello everyone,

I’ve been working on this project for some time now and all the pieces are now coming together so here are some information & photo’s. The case uses a 25x25cm heatsink as baseplate and the outer dimensions are 256x256x170mm. Autocad was used when designing & testing different configurations.

At this moment I’m still waiting for some small items so once I have it all I can start mounting all the components. The power supplies are mounted on the top plate, this plate is 10mm thick and has 2 M10 holes for the clamps. The laser module is a green LW 500mW and the galvo’s are Sonima SM2800C

A picture of the front, the temporary screws totaly kill the design

The idea of the project was to build a “minimalistic looking” projector and on the back you only find a power connector, ILDA in, ILDA out and a USB connector. The USB connector is used for configuring the scanfail.

Hope you guys liked the photo's so far

    I like the mega heatsink
    - There is no such word as "can't" -
    - 60% of the time it works every time -

    Amen to that!
I'd propose a slim radial fan machined into the back end of the fins to make it fully efficient tho, but yeah, awesome build!

Thanks guys, the first sketch even used a 30x30cm heatsink but I’m very happy that we (Mccarrot also has 2 cases) decided to use a smaller one.

I hope everything can be cooled without any fans but the controller board does have a temperature control circuit just in case it is needed. Yesterday I’ve sent the design files to the PCB manufacturer so a prototype can be build in 2 weeks or so.

    Very nice.
I think it would be even nicer with the neutrik connectors on the inside of the case ...

Wow, very nice design. Nice finish, very nicely and precisely made.
    I didn't fail !
I just found out 10,000 ways that didn't work.

Where did you bought that Neutrik USB connector?
