Default High quality 50mw 445nm blue diodes.

    Hi guys,

just thought I'd let you know about these nice diodes I just bought.

Dave put me onto them. They are 50mw Nichia NDB7242E which I believe can be driven at 150mw without to much trouble.

They would be great for small projectors or maybe holography to.

One thing to be careful of is that these diodes have a 3.8mm can so will need to machine a tiny press fit heat sink or use a mounting block with a design like Daves but it's not an insurmountable problem.

Here is a link to a thread on LPF about them.

    They are $99US.

    Good luck

or you could buy a 1watt 445 diode for $35 and run it at 150mw

If you combine 4 of these would the beam be much tighter? Thanks for the links!!! Kitakit:-)

For sure but I'll be traveling with this projector in hand luggage on nearly a weekly
asis so with the beam specs of this diode it should help me keep it compact by avoiding correction optics.

Also graphics is my priority for this projector so I figured with this diode it might be more suited to running at 100 mw and below as the harvested diodes threshold is around 20mw from what I understand.

I've got an A-130 to harvest for my larger project later.

for graphics I could definitely see these being better...

but then again, for graphics you really should use 473

Yeah, but the emitter on these diodes is tiny in comparison to the wide stripe of the casios, so the beam quality will blow the casios away... Wernt you the one whining about the poor beam quality of the casios Andy??

i made comment that i wanted to use decent optics to correct the beam yes.

i think the efforts of fellow forum members to test and find decent optics for the 1watt 445 diode is great and im happy with the correction optics.
