    hey 300evil,
i bought one of your DACs used and was working on tuning it. i used the max.wav file and tuned it but at the very beginning and each time it replays the voltage jumps to ~7v for a split second and then goes to 5v rock solid until the end of the file. i asked around and one person said it could be my DMM response time bu they were not sure. so i thought i would ask you as im sure you know the most about your own product.

thanks in advance for your help,

    bennett

I don't mean to bring a dead thread back to life but... are these still available for sale?

Depending on what version of Windows you have and what service pack is installed, the Windows sound system can do some weird things particularly with 6 and 8 channel devices. The issue is with digital gain and automatic gain control. Both of these things can cause color control signals to jump up above +5 volts and also cause the scanned images to bounce up and down in size and clip. If you have XP, installing service pack 3 seems to fix these issues.

BTW the board 300evil sells is an exact copy of the absolute original design of the LaserBoy correction amp by Dean Hammonds that has been posted since 2005.

    http://laserboy.org/p_laserboy_95.html

It uses a 5.1 volt zener diode as the negative voltage reference. It only works with sound devices that have a DC offset of about +2.25 to +2.5 volts. That means it will not have enough adjustment range to work with the newer C-Media 6206 based 8 channel USB sound devices which have a DC offset of only about +1.2 volts. The kits that were designed by myself and drlava (pictured in PaulZimm's post above) used a fixed -5 volt regulator and they don't work either. Since then I have redesigned the correction amp to use slightly different resister and pot values for finer adjustment resolution and greater gain and incorporated a variable negative voltage regulator to be able to null out just about any DC offset voltage you'll find on any multi-channel computer sound device.

Read this whole thread for all the modifications and schemos.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, just wondering if anyone has one of these audiolase things sitting around? Maybe with a sound card, looking for the whole package if possible.

    Thanks!

Should anyone happen to talk 300Evil into making a few more (as I did a couple years ago), I'm always in for one. I think I have 3 but, similar to your ILDA splitter, backups of good equipment are carefully guarded.

    Default don't we all

I think any avidly interested like minded soul. Will have built one. And may have tried other designs. Its not that difficult. All your intellectual input is right here at this forum. You'll learn quite a bit. From others design's.

adam gave me a blank PCB for one (new black color) at the time he had a big stack of them- I also have one he put together and tested for my but as i ended up getting a FB3 i have never used it.. I know what they went for and ATM need cash more than the DAC so i can take the LSO course after SELEM- not 100% positive where I put them but should be able to find them-PM me some incentive to go look ($ offer)

I did catch adam a few times at FB chat- he uses his name- for a bit it looked like he was coming back- he showed interest of a bunch(like 10) of 15K Chi-scanners for a project he had in mind but, then --no more contact..
