With low demands on the diode itself, (mw instead of watts), this diode easily accepts positive feedback thru it's output window, then its jus a matter of allowing it to come to a thermal equilibrium at the same time. by adjusting the current while the laser is in an interferometer set-up to achieve the longest coherent possible, i then allow it to run a while to thermally adjust then check the coherent length and make an even smaller adjustment to the current again, and i repeat this cycle until im happy with the lasers fringe structure......
i made two one beam holograms last night (w/8inches of coherent length),and only passive cooling!

Good work Dave. How much power did it give when it was finally stable?

Nice! Did you use the same type of lens you have on ebay?

thanks guys, yes Doc that’s the same uncoated lens im selling at E-bad.
Bob to be truthful I haven’t tested it yet! I was only concerned to tune in the fringes (so to say). I’ll do the final specs upon completion. I suspect @20 mw (after optics),@ 250mA

Any chance of this driving dichromate gelatin?

Should be no problem ! It just needs a good holographer at the controls !

as it turns out these diodes are great for DCG!

Brilliant Dave. A great sense of satisfaction I would imagine.

    This is great news!!

I am just coming back to holography... work on and off making holograms since 1973

My schedule for the weekend is to finish building a few 445nm portable lasers and bench models (TECed), and now, clean up my holography table... and to catch up with holography in general.

I read back un June that it may be possible to create holograms with 445nm in the single mode at low currents, got excited at the idea of using them.

What kind of plates did you use?

    Thumbs up

    That is so cool

I was trying to build a hologram stuff machine myself some years ago..
But it was to much to get into :P

I love holograms and think they are cool "old-school" effects..
Nice stuff you have made there :-)

You dont have any video of HOW that stuff work when you scan a image?

    Cheers
