Hi all, I got a sticky problem.

What kind of thermally conductive glue can I use to keep 445nm diodes firm in a 5.65mm hole in a brass block collimator mount ?

They will have Adam's laserbugs hanging off their rear ends so maybe a combined
diode/bug gungeing system (with a solvent drenched nappy for clean removal)

I have every intention of running them up to max power but I want to make sure they stay kool.

I also want to be able to remove them later if possible so I can change to RED if the mitsus ever get here.

Indium? Just turn off the TEC (or change polarity) and lase away for a minute to get the diode out!

Indium Wire, Strip, Foil, & Ribbon = this sounds like the right direction

What kind of insertion/extraction temp are we talking about

I am a fairly passionate kind of freak but these little fellas are delicate, and they are already gonna have bugs up their nether ends when the time comes, just to avoid prenatal heart attacks

Do I pre-tin the brass, any special flux, tips etc. ?
or is this a suck-it and see type thing? cmon fella thro a dog a bone
I am just about to spend money on this!

No, the melting point is just 156C (313F) so it is easy to solder.
I have never tried it on brass (just copper) and with a hotplate but it was very easy , I just cleaned the oxide off the copper and the pieces stuck together when heated to 200C.
You might want to heat the whole diode mounting block, I dont know how it reacts to soldering with a tip. Anybody else tried it?
I bought a small piece for 5USD or so on Ebay.

Why don't you open the hole in the retainer up to 5.1mm so the laserbug will fit inside the hole?

No Dave this is edison's great looking prototype quad setup (no retainer) just a 5.65mm hole for the time being.

Your ones haven't quite got here yet and I hope they arrive with the diode retainer, so no need for indium or glue on them. Yes I will drill them for bugs.
