I have 3phase!!!! And I ran my SP 165 just fine, but Ill have a bigger trasformer tom. the small one I had was only good for about 7 or 8 amps and pulling 23amps out of it was not the best thing for it, but I was able to after putting it in a bucket full of peanut oil But hey it works!!! Smells good too

Easy, ain't it! Now, please make sure you wire it all properly with a nice panel, some circuit breakers and proper grounding.

Well over all yes, but it still was a pain...Just a few more things to work out, and Ill start making a nice control box for it, and maybe add some volt, amp. meters too.
Heres what I have so far:
2 legs at 208.5 volts and the leg form the motor 214 with no load
with a load 2 legs at 208 and the other at 210 at min. current
Still going to add some caps to the set up, to keep the voltage stable.
Over all very happy!! Now lets make that meter spin!!!! JK!!

WATCH THAT CATHODE! amps and volts. Make sure the cathode is on the primary phase, not the virtual phase.

Thats why I pulled the cover off the 265, to find out what leg was doing what. Also form doing that I found out why my other PSU would not run, I found 2 fuses the had come lose on the passbank, put them back on, tuned the key,and it came to life!!

    Thumbs up

This thread has inspired me to do the same, I mean how hard can this be?!?

My only issue (perhaps) is I have a US OEM spec SP Performa (forget the power supply number.. will check when home) .. actually here is a similar one belonging to Jon:
    http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...764#post134764

It runs on 203v 3P and I have a huge Stepdown tranny to run it (Obviously over here I need to step from 400v 3P.

    So the silly question is...

If I'm using a 3P converter in the UK, from a Single phase line - do I need my transformer or not.. I'm guessing yes.. but hopefully someone can advise.

Pics / etc available! (when I get home)

yes, you still need 208 +/- 10% at the input.

Performa, at least the ones I've seen, use a phase fired PSU, so it might like to see nice 120' phase angles and consistent voltages.

    Again, watch the cathode wattage.

    Cheers Steve,

I'm going to do some digging in my community and see if I can find anywhere that has "real" three phase before I start blowing stuff up at home.

Well I was able to be a nice buck/boost transformer thats rated at 96.4amps! So with that I was able to get the 165 to 32amps. Ive got to change the wire and breaker out so I can go full power. Also got the voltage on the high leg to 209, but it seems to not like the surge that is put on it when I start the laser, so I think a nice cap. bank on that leg should fix that
But over all the total cost to build was just over $500, so Im ver happy!
