Default Move Along, Nothing to see here! (I90 HEAD SCHEMA)

    For the Evilmeister.

Put this thing on the Shark and even a Aussie Great White would sink... Whale shark, maybe, but they are more of just a fish.Click image for larger version.

Now you could have lasers with sharks on their heads with a I90, but not sharks with I90s on their heads. They are heavy.

I90 (NOT MODERN I90C) head schematics, 1-3 AT THE MAGNET are visible magnet, 2 and 4 AT THE MAGNET are HIGH FIELD FOR UV.

    Very cryptic!
I have a feeling that there is also an optics change required to get the benefits from this field change!

    or is this a private-public-PM

Maybe I'm just pissing in the wind here!

    Cheers

Mr Evil bought some partz from me. This is tech support until I can get the rest of the docs bound and collated.

And yes a optics change, without a high field you nearly melt the tube doing UV. A 7 watt visible argon produces about 350-500 mW of all lines UV depending on the optics, Typical is 350 nm and 361 nm lines. UV Argon lines are Triple Ionized, instead of Double Ionized. The high field, about 1300-1500 instead of 700-900 Gauss, raises the tube voltage but saves the bore or disk walls from massive erosion.

I used to work on a UV with a intracavity etalon. Just mild humidity in the room when cleaning optics would shut down lasing. Very low gain. Just imagine a tube not much bigger in length then a Lexel 8100 getting 56 amps.

I'm sure Mr Evil likes vis, running UV would melt the power lines in his garage. We don't have ring mains in the states, most houses have their own small transformer, or share with 1-2 neighbors.

Let me put it this way, the extra copper in a high field magnet yielded me 38$ at the scrap yard. The I90 magnet weights about 5 times more then a Lexel 95 magnet.

The first schematic set is the head wiring of a Coherent I-90-A argon head and the second is a Meditec EIL-4000 medical argon power supply. The two are going to mate after a sexchange and hopefully make lovely coherent photons.

    Thanks A LOT Steve!

Just what I needed. This answered a lot of questions. Yeah, this is my first Coherent ion and I can confirm that is one damn hefty magnet! Is that Zener between 1 and 4 needed?

Now I got the tap info for the cathode transformer so I can set it.

    Thanks Again!

About two pages out of ninety from the manuals on two different ion laser systems.

Parts with 1.5KE in the part number are transient shunt diodes that can handle 10s of Joules. They just used a Zener symbol. And no, its there if someone switches the magnet from UV to Vis with the power on. That magnet has enough inductive storage to make very big sparks and the surge would rip through some of the PSU.

Hi Adam sorry to butt in.

It's probably just an ant (or maybe a hedgehog) crawling across your screen !

Maybe it's just very hot low pressure plasma seeping into the thread.

Who knows? I didn't start this thread anyway.

Steve is just trying to explain transatlantic cultural differences.

You mean you get HV piped right up to the house?

That must make it "exciting" for little kids flying kites!

I ran UV on an excel 3500 for a short time just to see if it worked.
It gave miserable output so I gave up.

I do have a purelight and a couple of little 70.s (one seriously modded for mixed gas) and was very impressed with the cool tube tungsten lined disk idea, much better than the old supergraphite.

I have a workshop in Barcelona full to the brim of hightec archeology including a coherent dye laser which needs new optics.
Any idea where I can get some without breaking the bank?
They seem to have been soft coated and I didn't store them properly. Oops!

Also have an SP with a mixed gas Cambridge tube which I haven't bothered to exercise for the last five years. Oops again! What do you think it's chances are?

    Nuff said here!

    cheers
