Yes they are the units, I paid around £280 GBP which although expensive, work well and are the same size as the FB3 controllerhttp://uk.startech.com/Cards-Adapter...0m~USB2004EXT2

$89 each but still not cheap when a pair are needed.

    Only sjmachinder can confirm though.
That product has horrible reviews. Check out feedback here: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817707181

Just noticed the product I found was a different model so maybe that explains the price difference - 4000IP instead of a USB400EXT2. Visually identical, but different descriptions.

I also have a noisy fog machine and I found it to be the temperature control unit. When it breaks the AC, the spike interferes with the DACs and makes them lock up also. I have since put a power conditioner on the PC side of the ac current supply. the PC no longer sees the spike. Result, no more lockups!!! i HAVENT HAD ONE IN SIX MONTHS!! try craigslist for a furman power conditioner.

You will need a USB extender the only ones I know of that work and work well are from amplicon.
Personally, as I hate USB and dont trust it - I would prefer to have the FB local so if it goes on a bender you can reset it. I had perfect experience of that on Sunday night where my smoke machine (which is very noisy) locked up the FB3. Had that FB been on stage and not acessible I would have been stuffed.
Incidentally the FB3 is very very imune to noise and thats the first time its ever happend to me and I blame the noisy fogger as the culprit here
