    Hi Guys,

Yes this earthquake down here is very bad..

So far as of today 145 dead, 200+ missing.

We have rescue teams here from Australia, USA, Japan, Philippines and others. About 700 specialists in total.
They have declared a state of national emergency for the first time. This is to make things happen faster at a gov't level rather than a local level.

Most of central Christchurch is a total write off and a great loss in life and historical buildings.
Most have no power and no water in the city centre although that is getting better each day.
People are moving out the best way they can.
The final death toll will not be known for some time yet. They are hopeful of another one or two miracle rescues but as each day passes it seems less likely.

Where Wendy and I live is in the North Island so we are all good and safe although as we do live on a volcanic field who knows ??? is anyone safe ??

I did survive the Inangahua earthquake at 7.2 back when I was a teenager... killed three then never wish that on anyone.

    Cheers

    Ray

Yesterday i checked out The Press his website and saw several video coverage from citizens just after the earthquake. I was stunned, the devestation is enormous.
We have a special hart for new sealand because we travelled there for almost a year.
We have met several people and also from Christchurch. My hart goes out to al the people there that lost friends and family during the earthquake. Glad to hear your alright Ray. I wasn,t to worried because i knew you live in the smellie rotorua.
I,m think of going back next year for a month because i miss the friendly country and his people. You guys over there have a real bad couple of years if you look back. Several earthquakes , mineworkers lost and flooding. lots of whales died on the shores of New zealand. I wish everyone all the best and hold on thight to friends and family.

My mother and entire family are over there, not in Christchurch but Wellington, which is ironic because Wellington is the City thats 150 years overdue "the big one".

You can only imagine how I felt the morning last week I woke up and turned the radio on and heard something like "Earthquake in NZ". Sucks to be so far away from home.

My mum tells me it's all that is being broadcast on the radio and news, and that NZ has asked people to cancel their holiday plans for a month or so.. she works in a hospital in the lower north island and told me how a lot of EQ casualties have been airlifted to Wellington.

I no longer have any friends in CHCH, but all last week I've been thinking about it.. Natural Disaster is a terrible thing and my thoughts and love goes out to all those effected by it.

    Kia Kaha (Stay Strong).
