Default difference in A130 and A140

Any know what the difference is in the diodes in these two units? I know the A140 is 500 lumen brighter but that could be due to other factors besides the diode.

Any just wondering if anyone knew for sure

IMHO if you mixed up 5 of each you would not be able to tell the differance. Binned ? ..maybe-- diff diode--- not hardly. Rumor has it that O-Like is selling 130s as 140s.

those selling the 140s, of course are going to have a diff. opinion.

I've explained this in detail before; please search in the 445nm corner

    There *IS* a noticable difference...

Can not find anything on a search , do you remember the title or anything ?

the only difference is in efficiency. The diodes are the same, but it seems that they are binned according to how efficient they are. The a140 diodes seem to give slightly higher optical output for a given input current.

    Around 20% from my findings...

Speaking for myself I hesitate to put a percentage on it since I've seen quite a bit of variation, which is typical of all laser diodes. Some of the A140 specimens I've used or people I know have used have been exceptional as far as output, others not as much. They do all consistently outperform their A130 brethren though.

Yes... the slope efficiencies are on a continuos scale up from 0% to whatever.
However; that seems a ballpark for my sample size

Interestingly there is a fair bit of room matched on their datasheet for diodes with much higher slope efficiencies.
    A-150 anyone?
Cancelled due to thermal issues. Higher powered red LED I presume.

Are you referring to the datasheet for these specific diodes? I have yet to have seen a datasheet myself.. where can it be found?

Sounds like same diode from different lots, Like the b - stock goes into the A130.
However also sounds like you could just drive the A130 a little harder to get to same power up to a point, A140 probably will do a bit more total power if driven to the limits.

However if just driving to about 750mW may just take a little more current.
