    Yep.. I've asked b4 but still trying to figure out exactly what this thing is
    B4 I tear it apart... AOM or PCAOM or modulator of some sort is my guess..
    And prolly for IR ....(1064) etc...
    Having not played with 1064 much I can only guess..
    There are no markings or clues on the outside other than the SMA connector!!!

    Definately looks like some kind of modulator. Maybe a q-switch?.. My question is what was it apart of?.

    I'm almost certain it's made by Lightwave Electronics based on the way the optics are mounted. The crystal that the coax goest to is likely some sort of modulator, but I've never seen one mounted at an angle like that. Is that a rectangular crystal I see mounted in the copper block? If so, I'd guess it's KTP or LBO and this is some sort of external doubler for a yag laser.

    Hi Kev,..

    Yeah, I was thinking it was some kind of modulator..
    I didnt think about it being a doubler tho..

    As far as the crystal goes.. . Yeah strange angle..
    I did grid - dip the L-C circuit and found it reasonent at around 50 Mhz.
    It looks like its there to suppress harmonics .

    The copper looking thing actually has two mirrors mounted on it.
    Two 90 deg turns and back out the small hole with the dark (ND?) filter on it.

    The whole mess is mounted on quite a large heatsink.
    It does not pass any green or red...!!!
    Guess I need to find me some 1064 at a few watts and see what gives!!!
    Someday.... I will get around to it..

    It looks like there are several electrical items in there, either heating elements or sensors, but they do not appear to be connected to anything. The text says that the only external connection is the SMA, and that is clearly connected to a modulator crystal of some sort. I have seen this once before, in a mechanical prototype that was never intended to work at all. I can't think of any other explanation.

    The complete device is almost certainly a frequency modulated diode laser.

    Would be more obvious if we could have a propper look at it!

    Hello,

    this seems to be a smalll Q-Switched DPSS made by Lightwave Electronics.
    I think that they used a fiber coupled diode to pump this item,
    the ligth will enter the assembly by the small hole near the large mirror
    with the hole in the middle. The pumplight will then focused on the crystal in the
    copper mount. The output coupler is the samll mirror behind the copper mount.
    By the two 90° mirros the light will leave the assembly by the small hole.
