Just FYI to the Alphalite users out there...

There has been an update to the software. Version 2.83 is now available.

Not sure what all Rick changed, but I do know that he added a "Save draw speed" button to the abstract editor. Ever notice when you load an abstract the speed slider jumps back to zero? Or that once you click on the slider, the draw speed jumps back to normal? Well, that's been fixed. Load an abstract, set the speed, then click "save draw speed", and you'll never have that problem again. (And when you save a new abstract, first save the file, then click the button to save the draw speed.)

I'm still waiting for my alphalite unit to arrive, but in the mean time I've been playing around with the software... So far it's been great fun, but I can't wait to actually start displaying things with a laser instead of a monitor!

Default Alphalite software fix is in the works!

Just a quick note to all you alphalite users out there...

Rick has been working on the memory problem for the last several months, and it looks like he's almost got it fixed. He sent me a test program to try out yesterday. While it doesn't actually output to the alphalite hardware, it does display ilda files on the screen. I was able to click through *hundreds* of files, and the memory usage never increased beyond that required for the file itself. (And as soon as I clicked on another, smaller file, the extra ram was released to the system...) After an hour of playing with it, the ram usage was the same as it was when I started! (And no crashes!)

Bottom line - he's very close to a solution.

    Adam
