wellcome
wellcome to the forum alex
why is building an x,y scanner out of your league ?
-
simple
well it way easier than robotics ,been there got the tee shirt
it only as complex as you make it, x,y scan set ,easy, buy it mount it wire it up
lasers buy them mount them wire them up, get some dichros filters have loads of fun getting beams to line up,done get dac and software ,then have a crap load of fun
warning its a money pit hobby
it can get complex if you want to get into building your own multi diode setups.
but for starters you could get a cheap scan set ant use one of your pointers
for a laser, get a cheap dac like norm's frame streamer 2 dac with his software
job done

scanners
scanners just use a +-24v power supply and use a +- 5v analog singnal from a dac to steer the laser (best to get a set that can scan at 30kps)
the dac is the interface from a computer and the software, that will display
ilda frames or animations, as for norm he is the creator of a cheap dac with free software read more here http://www.ctrnd.com/NormLaserShow/LatestNews.htm
also there is other free software that can run on his dac
wiring up a laser projector is going to be easy for you after robots
there is a lot of info tucked away in this forum, just do a search,
and if you dont find it just ask and you will get loads of help
that how i started out, also google sam's faq ,loads of info there too
just ask and consider it answered, very helpfull this lot
