so then go to another country that doesn't have retarded laws?

I thought getting a variance was a hassle (well, it is) but Class II? is that a freaking joke?

    Question

    Hey Mcc -

Any possible-further clarification to these questions?:

Is the ruling against IIIB and IV laser *radiation* or the lasers, themselves? To clarify, would an 'inspector' simply look at the classification labeling, and go off of that? Or would the projections / fx actually be 'measured', onsite?

If-so, would there not be some 'onus' (burden of proof) on them to prove that thier methods of measurement, were, indeed, accurate, according to laser-industry standards and protocols, etc?...

Another ??: could you use a Class IV laser, if the projections could be proven to be less-than Class III? ...ie: you could prove 'compliance', pre-show, then, mysteriously, 'Oops, how in carnation did that get so-bright???' at show-time...

Heh, yes, and Hugo posted a funny reply addressing that, on the ILDA lists... 'then, perhaps just locate the projector OUTside, and scan thru the windows! (if only it were that easy... )

Ugh, what a 'PITA'.... Heaven help us all if the French 'Ministry' and the TSA ever join forces...

    cheers..

There is no really technical explanations.

Lasers are classified by level of risk increasing from 1 to 4 according to IEC 60825-1 (2007).

Classes 1 and 2 which are safe under normal conditions of use.

Class 3 could be dangerous under certain conditions.

Class 4 whose use requires stringent precautions.

This class appears very clearly on the device including the number and the symbol corresponding to the latter.

The lasers are compliant with the standard NF EN 60825-1 (January 2008) or any other equivalent system to meet the same requirements.

    4. 2. Provisions for the installation, use and measures to be taken by operators of laser equipment.

The laser class 3 and 4, used exclusively outdoors, are implemented by competent and trained to the specific risks of lasers, accompanied by a notice in accordance with Article 4 of the decree.
