Default Lasershow i did on a LAN Party

    Hello all,

Been quite busy a bit lately, but i still wanted to make a post about a show i did on a Lanparty here in Holland, called THE REALITY. I am the announcer/speaker/mc there and was asked to bring along my lasers to do the opening act at 10PM on friday night.
The theme of the LAN was Science Fiction so lasers could be of use.

For those that don't know what a LAN Party is, people bring their own pc's and we play games etc for 50+ hours and then quit.

Unfortunately i still can't upload any pictures to my gallery so i will post them in this topic. But i got to upload some movies to Youtube so you can see those !

Thursday i went into the hall, hang up my lasers. I brought my wellknown (for the people that visited the UKLEM) RGB 1.7Watts and i brought my 2 greens. One is doing around 800mW and the other is 1.2W (after a nice tweaking job from Rob "Oh yeh old Laserguru" Stanwax.
The hall is a curved ceiling, 15 meters high and has nice crossbeams at 10meters high.
We rigged some truss and i mounted my projectors on there.

Then 2 hours before the show i turned on the Look Solutions Unique 2.1 Hazer.
When we practised 2 weeks ago, i had to turn it on full and in 2 hours the hall of 60.000 cubic meters was filled up. But now the heating was on, and they blow the haze through the hall very quick, so in 30 to 40 minutes i looked like thick fog... damn,.,... now i had to wait 1,5 hours to do the show... i didn't expect that !

Here you see me place the hazer on a electricity house inside the hall, i blew smoke into the hall very nice...

Within 40 minutes with both FAN and Power on 100% the hall looked like this:

Then at exactly 10PM on friday, the beamer countdown movie stopped and the show started.
I played Trancentral a show made by Adam Burns aka Buffo.
I really want to thank him, since the show was a great success and he did an excellent job creating the show.
One day i hope i'll be able to return the favor and create shows that you can play as well, with the same quality and colorful, cool effects in them !
    Thanks ADAM !

I had a Green 1.2W to the left, my RGB in the middle and then a bit more to the right the 800mW green.
I was sitting right below the righthand laser, had a 3 cables runnning up from my desk: 220V to all projectors, ILDA lead from the QM.net and a safety stop ethernet cable (connecting to Robs fantastic ILDA interface).
On top of the RGB was a Matilda interface, 1x ilda in, 5x ilda out. From there 1 cable went to the left projector and one cable to the right.
Also the power was distributed to the side projectors. so i was able to shut the projectors down, so i don't had to leave them on all weekend (since the "hardcore pro gamers complained that they were distracted" so i wanted to be able to shut them down...)
The most people were on the left hand side of the hall so i decided to place the most "light" there:

And then in the end only the big moving heads went on to the stage to lighten me up in my space suit that my lady friends thought was "spacey" enough, a grey pilot suit and some silvery jacket.
Well OK, anything for the show right ? I have been dressed up and brought in in a coffin last year as Dracula and now i was dressed up in this. I don't care as long as i can have fun.
And it's fun to welcome 800 people to the LAN !

And then after all the pictures there are some movies ofcourse !

First here is an overview of the hall:

This was the test in the empty hall, 3 weeks ago:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUqrOu_50iQ

    Then the openingmovie:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P71sFoNUC7w

A better quality movie i still have to get of the tape of my friends camera, he was the only one that knew what was going to happen and has the best cameraviewpoint.
But no firewire cable so no movie yet (unfortunately).

Ofcourse there is always people with better camera's, so here's another clip (basically the last 20 seconds of the show, but also including the cheering....)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYK58QLxy34

Then after the opening speech i did another show called Solarstation,
This show is made by Holger Walter from HW Lasertechnik in Germany.
Thanks also to Holger for this nice show !
It had a nice spacey sound so fitted in the Science fiction theme.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqVkxVR5XC4

So basically that was all i got to say ;-)
    Hope you liked it.

I got a lot of questions why the second green was placed so far to the right.
Both greens were exactly lined up with the table rows, but the RGB couldn't be in the middle since we use a rather large beamerscreen (6meters wide, 4 meters high) which already is located in the middle.
So i had to choose a side where to hang the RGB so i choose the side were the most people were sitting (450 to 500).... on the other side was the relax area (with consoles, old dutch games etc...)
Only thing i had to do is make the green shine towards the rgb more, now it was straight ahead and a bit "out of picture"....
Well i learned that for the next time....

Any comments or tips to make my shows better, placement etc. are always welcome ! Let me know what you think ?

Yeah and it would only cost around 15.000 euros to rent it for a weekend so, what are we waiting for ? ;-)

Theres 125A of 400V in there, outside was a 150A/400V generator and a smaller 125A/400V generator...
Remember: we needed to power 800 pc's and around 150 servers (for hosting games/ftp/intranet site and live streams) oh and then all the lights on the stage, sound system.

All the lightstrings that are on top of the beams for instance are 6 strands of 1600W each (aaaaargh i thought it would be like 200W or something , but they consume 1600W!!!

Great job Dimitri, that must have been a real buzz
