    Default Newspaper rock (desert lumia)

there's a rock in utah that just sticks with you. when you see it, you forget to breath for a while. it's called newspaper rock and it's got two thousand years of petroglyphs on it.

i'm native american and a photographer. i wanted to do a modern tribute so i cut a bunch of stencils based on the petroglyphs found on the rock.

i built a small RGB lumia box that can be run from AC or DC...

...and went skinking in the open desert around my house. when i found a suitable rock, i used fluorescent marking chalk to create the petroglyphs.

the piping frogs and great blue herons kept me company with their spooky noises while i waited for sundown.

once it was dark enough, i fired up the lumia box and started shooting.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Hi Swami

That's great work. You never know, in a thousand years time (if there's no rain ), your rock may also be a national monument. That'll confuse the hell out of 'em

    thanks!

i want to scale this up a bit. there's plenty of big rock faces around here.

we only get about 6" of rain a year around here, so i need to make sure i don't mark anything i can't clean.

    Hey Swami!
That's a really neat blend, with nature at one end of the spectrum and tech at the other end. My favorite is the Medicine Man shaped glyph- some serious magic going on in those rocks!
    Thanks for sharing,
    Mike

Most Excellent, CS... I really think you're 'on to something' (...I mean, as-like, an 'art installation' / exhibition)... I want in on the ground-floor...

Idea: try a really-low powered 'blisslight' for a 'greenie specs-style' starfield add-in... ..don't have a bliss? If you make it out here for SoCaLEM... (...assuming we have one.. ) I'll let ya borrow one, and you can n-joy experimenting with it, fer a bit...

Keep up the nice werk... I diggit..

WOW! That's killer! The photographs are awesome but I doubt they do the "in person" justice. Your a real artist my friend.
