Default eBay laser nazi's at it again

Any other eBay sellers here having auctions canceled due to the mysterious 5mW rule? I've had a couple of big ticket items (an 18W 808nm pump diode and a 50mW single mode DPSS) canceled in the last 2 days. Both times eBay called them hazardous items and said that no laser >5mW is allowed on eBay. They could not explain to me why there is a category for industrial lasers and yet industrial lasers are not allowed on the site...

    Hi Kev ...

Yeah.. They Kicked-off one of our 150mW Red modules..

But I see all the other supposedly
Dangerous... Toxic... Flammable.. Hazardous .. Poisonous ..Deadly
    you name it ...STILL there.

I can only guess they are training a newbee at ebay!!!
As they still dont know what laser components are..
Or the difference between one laser or another ..

Maybe they think we are all stupid because we dont spell it "LAZER"

Well, I just hope they dont make a habit of this.

I plan on relisting tonite ..

    Default It's a dog-eat-dog ebay...

I've had some trouble in the past with ebay... After many conversations with them, it seems that the only way that anybody's auction gets canned is when another member reports it. (Hence the e-mail that you get when your auction is canceled urges you to report other users with 'dangerous' items.)

It's just how their system works. ...

My guess is that some ebayers (competitors) have just never learned how to 'play nice', and so they get eachothers' auctions cancelled to gain a competitive advantage  .

I could just be paranoid though..... ops:

Oh, by the way... I am new here.... this looks like a very interesting board... will try to contribute whatever I can....

    Hey Liteglow!

    Thanks for the welcome.....

We develop/sell laser systems, we provide custom laser solutions, and do laser light shows (see my new thread in the Lounge)...

Mostly, I just play with lasers, and try to make a living out of it :-)

    Dimitry;

Hello! I saw your post on alt.lasers talking about this e-bay auction cancelling problem as well.

Do you have an idea as to who might be doing this to your auctions? (You mentioned a competitor, do you know whom that might be?) It might be worth your time to contact E-bay directly and ask them to look into WHO has submitted the request that your auctions be cancelled... Maybe you can point it out to them that you are the victim of sabotage.

I agree that it really sucks. E-bay is pretty clueless most of the time. I've sold a few items and been lucky, but I've heard horror stories from power sellers too. E-bay is just too big for them to properly manage anymore.

    Adam

PS: I've been to your LaserGlow site a few times... Lots of nice equipment you've got there!

eBay won't tell me if my auctions were ended because of an internal scan or due to someone reporting them. You can see that *all* laser pointers >5mW are gone so perhaps they did an internal review and this was fallout from that. Even if it was due to someone reporting the auctions, eBay won't tell me who did it due to their privacy policy.

Since I seem to have been singled out and they have threatened to revoke my power seller status if I have any more policy violations, I am not going to be selling lasers on eBay any more. That was about 70% of my business so it's going to be Top Ramen and Mac and Cheese until I can get a shopping cart set up on www.Junktronix.com and get some serious traffic directed to it.
