    Hello!
The BRRM and DRRM is really small... the soon avaiable 1,8W and 2,5W modules are the same size as 1,3W - only 25mm more high !

The problem on the 250mW and more Diodes from Opnex, mitsubishi is not only the Angle which the emitter emitts (10*40° for this diodes to ~7*16° for opnext 150mW 642nm) ... the Problem is the emittersize.... the Casio 445nm has emittersize of ~ 14*1µm ... the Nichia 500mW 445nm diode ~7*1µm , the Opnext 642nm 150mW ~ 3*1-2µm and the Opnext 642nm 250mW diode has a way bigger emitter of 25*1µm and the Mitsubishi 500mW 638nm Diodes has a 45*1µm emitter - so on it is not possible to get these diodes to anything like a good beam (still its hard to get a usuable beam with a casio diode... The best is 1mrad.... our projectors have 0,5mrad and max. 0,7mrad for high powers... at 3,5mm beam)

    Greets,

When I looked into these diodes 18 months ago or there abouts; they were the same price as the 150mW diode. I raised the question at the time but the (speculative) consensus was the beam would be useless.

As you say Andy; you need far too many 150's to get real power, plus all the issues with aligning loads of beams.

There has to be a better bang for the buck/compromise beam quality shortish wavelength diode out there.

There are plenty of 628nm and 635nm packages out there. The nice one is a little above 2.5 watts . The 250mw 628nm is very nice..emitter size is 50x1um. Even a 20 watt bar can work...taming the higher aspect ratio with fiber is one method....but there is a better solution with no fiber to fiddle with burning the ends aligning with PMMA fiber.
