The 1/2 threaded barrels are from Axiz yes? I know they stopped selling 1/2 threads recently...

Screw the barrel (well half screw anyway..LOL) ... it's the LENS that interests me !

what is the maximum current you run the HL6385DG?

    Default current

I run them at 300ma. Have done so for a year with no issues. Gives about 200mw each. 4 gives a solid 800mw.

At what temperature? Because if I compare your output with the datasheet it seems yours are performing extremely well

sorry mine are the 638nm diodes. I forgot I changed mine out. the 642nm diodes ran at 270ma room temp and I never measured there output.

ok, the 637nm diodes got a typical operating current of 250ma, so with 300mA you are overdriving 20%

    the 642nm diodes typical operating current is 280mA, add 20% = 336mA

attached is also a extended temperature/mA curve

I really prefer the 638nm diodes. They seem a lot brighter to me. I put an image using 638nm next to a 671nm image and you can tell the difference but it isn't what people would think in terms of being much "deeper" in terms of red. Thus the argument at least for me to use lower wavelength reds to get a better image doesn't hold water at least for laser art. Looking at that chart, it seems a big TEC would help alot if you could solve the dew issue with a heated window and a sealed chamber for the reds. Now having said that, it would most likely be a lot cheaper to add more diodes

Is this graph for the 637nm or the 642nm LDs?
    Cheers

the graph is for 642nm diodes
