I ranked 10th out of 20 or 25 ....something like that.
Cool, but half blinking the kids first is an unfair handicap!!!!

The problem with laser games is that the outcome is partly based on skill, partly based on equipment. The packs vary quite significantly in how sensitive the IR sensors are, which caused us to nickname some of the packs hoovers, as they'd pick up any stray beam going.

We used to do quite a lot of work in trying to level them, by bending the sensors away from the windows, etc, but you could only go so far. When we used to run tournaments and intersite championships our regulars knew exactly which packs not to go for, and the same happened when we visited other sites.

Also, some of the targetting was way off, where the IR beam didn't go anywhere near where the laser beam was hitting.

They did have some nice software in Laserquest though, as they built some upgradability into the packs. One of them was that the shoulder sensors also had wide angle IR emitters in them. They added missile launcher rounds in an upgrade so if you held the trigger down it would fire a missile. The person who took the hit then emitted IR (with your player signature) from their pack, so you had quite effective area effect weapons. All in all it was quite a fun period in my working life!

Did a bit with UK VeQtor as well which is a Canadian Co I believe.

Laser Quest is where we went. The packs fit over the shoulders, with sensors on both shoulders, and a front and back , large sensor.

I don't know anything about a missile launcher round, which would have been very cool....but I do know that the names of those shot and those that shot you appear on the gun.

It was a blast-plan to go back again.

Yeah, what you had available was dictated by the type of game they were running. They can turn functionality on and off at will. The more exotic stuff is usually reserved for special events.

We used to run special scenarios based on Aliens/Warhammer 40k type stuff. We were in a fantastic building that had a lift in it so on members events we locked the front door and used all the reception area and lobby.

    On eof the scenarios:

A 5 to 7 man team of marines with limited lives, 2 heavy weapons specialist (missile launcher and machine gun), 1 medic (can shoot ally players and revive when dead) and a tech man (the lift was needed to get to the queens lair, but needed tech to 'break' the system. This comprised of completing 10 lines on Tetris on a Gameboy gaffa taped to the wall by the lift! The nature of the puzzle wasn't known in advance )

Then all the other players played aliens, 1 life, had to return to spawn point after being killed.

This resulted a constant stream of 'aliens' and a need for the marine group to preserve key members throughout.

we did lots of stuff like that as most of the crew worked for Game sWorkshop previously or were keen roleplayers, so we all wanted a little something 'extra' out of our play there. And as a result all our member nights sold out long in advance Good times
