Looking for any updates on the 8xRed edison. How's it going with build, alignment and all?

Wiki:The first visible wavelength laser diode was demonstrated by Nick Holonyak, Jr. in 1962.

Hello joopy.
I recieved the diodes for building the red but didn,t recieve the circuitboards because the workers from TNT are on strike for 3 days. They have a very good reason to be in my opinion but no mail for 3 days. Also next saterday there is a Lem in ilpendam and i have to prepare some stuff for that. Hopefully i can start next week.
Nice Idea to couple X Blue Diodes..but not followed by a Pair of Prism..
it would not work..the Beams you put together as near as possible will
habe bigger Distance to each other after they passed the Prism..
The Deflection Agle of 2 Beams next to gether but surely not on the same
Point of the Prism is different...just try it with 2 Diodes.
They will leave the Prism with about 5mm Distance to each other.
Greetings
Guido

same problem with the cylindrical lenses, but everything is just a matter of time, patience and precision at adjusting the beams together... it is possible at the expense of 5% losses on mirror edge per diode in a standard knife-edge setup, and should also be possible in this case
i dont think a prism pair will work on this setup.
the two sets of beams need to go through a prism pair then combined through a cube.
if you have two sets of beams already combined through a cube and you put a prism pair in front its going to expand both sets of beams. where as you only want to expand the slow axis. but you will also expand the fast axis of one set of beams.

what difference would that make?

There is allot of confusion in the last couple post.
Andycon is talking about expanding slow and fast axis after a PBS. this is not true when using a waveplate. a waveplate will only turn the polarisation and not the axis.
Guido is talking about 4 stacked beams trough a prism pair (this is not a PBS), and he is right you will end up with a huge beam.
also the 1,6W 640nm is a little bit optimistic, but I hope edison proves me wrong.
Have a look at my 6 diode blue build pix, and it should become clear

im sorry but what am i missing about a wave plate??
a wave plate changes the polorisation not the axis, so again coming out of the cube will be two different axis I -.
so using two sets of prism pairs wont work as you will expand the slow and fast axis at once.
