I realize this thread was created some time ago, but in regard to audience scanning in the US.

FDA and CDRH / 21 CFR 1040.11 compliance states that any audience scanning must be done at a power no greater than 4.99mW.

There is one company that I am aware of that has achieved this with a varianced projector system using a 5W YAG laser head from Melles Griot.

There are also many shows here in the US that choose not to abide to these rules and most of their systems probably lack the proper IR filters needed for the green and blue modules. Sadly the audience is unaware of the dangers involved.

If you are recovering from flash blindness from the previous effect and can't see the next one - chances are the output of the laser projector is too high.
