    Hi Buffo,

Fog can be a trick. We have been in venues where they have flat-out refused the use of fog, and other venues where they said "sure no problem, as long as you use our fog machine". Use their fog machine? Sure! No problem!

Anyway, this is something that needs to be asked for each respective venue...

    Boston? :?

Dude - you're in Norway... What's the difference between Boston and Atlanta when you still have to cross the whole Atlantic ocean to get there? (It's only about 1100 miles from Boston to Atlanta; you could drive there in 18 hours...)

Now, if you've already got a free ride to Boston, then let's talk about getting you the rest of the way here... 8)

    hehe

My brother live in boston, he works at Fast Search And Transfer.

And when I go to him i can stay there 14 days and dont pay for my stay\food.

But i think it will be hard to me to go alone in Atlanta, with no place to stay (for free) and buy food out everyday.......

Hope i can take my brother to a vacation to atlanta for the weekend

    Fog provided, nice!

Also -- take a look at the smoke detectors! While fog machines will *theoretically* not set them off, tell that to every student and teacher at my high school that had to stand out in the pouring rain after the drama teacher and I decided to test our fog rig for an upcoming play in the theater. Yeah, we were using a little more fog than usual, but...

The problem ended up being that the smoke detectors were the laser beam kind that have sender and reciever mounted at opposite ends of the room.

Ok, that's all well and good, but how are you going to get from Norway to Boston in the first place? (And how are you going to get your laser projector there?)

Hell, I'll bet we could work something out for your stay in Atlanta... Most of the people that will be coming to SELEM will need hotel rooms... (well, except for Spec that is) Maybe you could split a room with someone. And we're only talking about a weekend... Food is cheap if you know where to go.

Getting from Boston to Atlanta shouldn't be too hard. A train or bus would get you there in about a day, and probably cost around $300 round trip... Flying would be lots quicker, and would cost about the same (or even less if you fly early in the morning) but you won't have as much room for your laser. (Unless you've got a flight case?)

Seriously though, if you're honestly thinking about spending the money to fly to Boston from Norway anyway, then in my mind it would be worth it to make the extra trip to Atlanta for SELEM... I'm sure we could arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport...

There you go! That's the ticket! Get your brother interested in lasers, and maybe he'll drive you down to Atlanta for the weekend and stay in a hotel with you. It's about 2200 miles round trip, so if you figure a conservative 25 miles per gallon, and worst case of $3 per gallon for fuel, you're going to end up spending about $265 on gasoline if you drive... (Probably less than that!)

    Default Fog machines...

Yeap... Been there, done that, in a school! (Well, except for the part about triggering the sprinkler systems! That would totally suck!)

In fact, I've even set off the regular smoke detectors you have in your house with my fog machines... It's surprisingly easy to do. The older ones basically detect airborne particles, not smoke specifically. Thus, they can't tell the difference between a real fire and my damn fog machine. (Grrrr)

Never ran into the laser-based ones you described though...

But this problem is exactly why Spec has been very clear to everyone about the fact that we will *NEED* fog machines operating in whatever room we select. :? Lots of places were ruled out based on this requirement alone. (Sigh...)

But fear not! I have confidence that Robert will come through for us.

Well, that date isn't carved in stone yet... We just didn't have a whole lot of discussion about dates at the time, so I pulled one out of my behind.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind changing the date one bit! (That weekend will still work for me, but it's become inconvenient.)

So what do the rest of you say? When would *YOU* like to have it? (List several dates for this summer, and we'll try to pick something that works for everyone.

I do think we need to be more mindful of the folks that were planning on flying in from afar. Yadda is talking about traveling 2K miles to make it to this thing, for example, so we don't want to be jerking things around too much.

Anyway, we had agreed that by the end of this month, we would nail down a date, a time, and a location. So speak up now, if you have a preference, or live with the consequences!
