    Weekends are nice.

Weekends that would work for me:
    June 3-4
    July 8-9
    July 15-16
    July 29-30

A little late in the summer but still workable:
    August 12-13
    August 19-20

As of right now, I can do any weekend in June, July, or August EXCEPT FOR July the 28th and 29th... Also, the original date we selected (June 17th and 18th) will still work for me, but it will be less convenient. (I'll need to make some other arrangements in order to make it that weekend, but it's still doable...)

Does anyone else have a preference? Yadda? MechEng3? Astroguy?

Right now I am at the mercy of the $ offerings so my schedule is blasted from day to day. Not to mention the unforseen things that occur. I will try to make it a business related vacation of sorts. That way it will be written down on the list of unfinished business. So I will try to work with the date that is set and go from there. Right now I am in the process of becoming as debt free as possible. Tired of being slave to lender. Everything else is good!

    Default Date change

Well, after speaking (offline) with a few of you, it appears that a date change is in order. Looks like July will be better for a lot of people. So, if there are no objections, then we'd like to move the S.E.L.E.M. date to the weekend of July the 15th and 16th.

Anyone have a problem with that weekend?

    I'm fine with that.

Any news on the venue front?
From a recent discussion on an unrelated forum, the costs of renting out a hotel like that may run >$10k, not covering insurance.

Do you have any friends that run businesses out of a warehouse? Really all we need is a lot of space, high ceilings, three-phase industrial power and running water. If it's a super private event, by invitation and registration only, and it's held on private property, then things can be a bit easier for all concerned. Since it is likely to be a Saturday, Sunday event, I know I can survive 48 hours in a warehouse with very little accommodations. With a party like that going on, that's all part of the fun; A blanket, a pillow, a truckload of snacks and a keg......... mmmmmmmmmmm.

Thats one of the biggest problems im having.

Most sales stafff usually flake out somewhere between fogger and laser, so i havent had the *dis*pleasure of hearing that too much.

Found one place that was cool with hazers, lasers were not a problem and the actual room space was free, one catch: $6000 a day catering requirements OR 150 *guaranteed* room-nights at a "discount-rate" of $75/night/room.

I like food but i dont think i could see myself scarfing down $18,000 in catered hamburgers and plate garnish.

So Ive shifted focus to alternative venues *near* hotels with a mortar cannon on the roof aiming at the hotel.

Joking aside, i have a couple leads on warehouses and "high ceiling" studio-offices. The new requirements are a bit different, like first floor/wide doors/temperature controls/lots of power, but its looking to be a lot easier to work out.

I know some people (MIT alumni-types) who up here in Boston have warehouse space. They likely would not mind hosting a small group of people with lots of lasers at all... worst comes to worst, I can bug them.
