Continuing from the NLLEM2010 thread...
My idea is to get a larger scale laserist meeting started which could attract more audience and possibly some dealers in the laserist world. Similar to the (worldwide) ILDA conference, but hosted in a large European city and on a non-profit basis.
As an example, I've attended and organised conferences like FOSDEM, Hacking At Random, and various events in the science fiction and fantasy world with a similar setup.
Aside from general socializing, the plan is to call for papers and schedule lectures on laser display and related topics. Several thematic tracks could be set up if the amount of lecturers allows it (e.g. laser physics, laser display systems, laser safety) so visitors can follow a certain track based on their topic of interest.
Furthermore, there would be a trade floor open to dealers in the laser display and audiovisual industry (which would also generate funds to support the event) and, of course, a lase-off in the evening which could be turned into a spectacular theatre display if entries are sent in beforehand.
For the time frame, at the moment I'm thinking about early or mid 2012 if we can find a suitable venue and sponsorship.
As far as the location is concerned, I'm inclined to go for one of the larger cities in Western Europe, either Amsterdam, Paris or Brussels.
The latter (Brussels) is the most practical when it comes to logistics, as it has rail connections in under 2 hours to Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne and London and an international hub airport. FOSDEM is organised at the University of Brussels, which has various facilities available and is probably worth looking into for this event.
From this thread, I'm mostly looking for input from the PL members to find out what everybody wants/would like at a Europe-wide LEM. If anyone wants to help me in setting this event up, don't hesitate to contact me through e-mail or PM. Have good idea, will travel!
