    Question Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse

Is anyone planning on checking tonight's lunar eclipse out? They say the best time is in a little less than 2 hours.

This lunar eclipse falls on the date of the northern winter solstice. How rare is that? Total lunar eclipses in northern winter are fairly common. There have been three of them in the past ten years alone. A lunar eclipse smack-dab on the date of the solstice, however, is unusual. Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory inspected a list of eclipses going back 2000 years. "Since Year 1, I can only find one previous instance of an eclipse matching the same calendar date as the solstice, and that is 1638 DEC 21," says Chester. "Fortunately we won't have to wait 372 years for the next one...that will be on 2094 DEC 21."

    Where is the eclipse visble?
Someone I know from facebook who is from the US told me about the eclipse, really awsome if it would be in The Netherlands too, however I doubt it.

I saw it this morning, kinda .. on my drive to work about 07:00 GMT.. moon partially obscured and slightly red.

I was on my way to Glasgow from Edinburgh, so I don't know if my northerness made the difference ?

Cant even see the sky here. Let alone the moon.

Although not of an eclipse, I did take this about 8 weeks ago. You can see some chromatic abberations from using full optical and digital zoom on the camera. Apart from that, I was quite pleased with the shot.

I saw it great last night from my driveway. Lots of clouds cruisin' by, but very clear sky between them! A glorious event for anyone like me who's dawn to alignment. Any alignment. Like when driving along and the utility poles come in to and out of alignment. Or bicycle wheels. Or complex laser systems. Or lasers themselves, the ultimate expression of alignment. Mothist tendencies might draw me to the light, but it's its alignment that's my response when I get there.
