Not sure if this is similar, but using my HTC touchscreen (G1) and wi-fi I can control my pc as if the phone were a touchscreen monitor. However the phones display doesn't show my desktop,so you would need an actual monitor to see what you are controlling.
Yes,there's an app. for that.
I have been playing with VNC on the iPad and it works much quicker and smoother than on an iPod. I have not noticed any lag at all; only problem is if you need to use the mouse for something...

Looks Awesome ... Tested it out .... Sends the laptop Win7 display to my ipad as a 2nd monitor screen but no touch control alas :/
Bugger, I went looking for that detail before I posted it and the only reference that I presumed meant the touch worked was this:Sends the laptop Win7 display to my ipad as a 2nd monitor screen but no touch control alas :/
Key Features:
- Creates an interactive, secondary wireless display for your PC with the iPad
One would assume interactive would mean the touch works

did you try setting the Ipad as the primary monitor? ( just a thought)
Wyse for iphone/ipad have been the best one this far from the solutions i tried controlling the lasersoftware from remote... otherwise a touchscreenmonitor is cheaper than buying an ipad if it is the touch function you need
Sounds like a VERY expensive alternative? Why not just use a touchscreen monitor??
A capacitive touchscreen monitor, even small, is as expensive as an iPad, I guess... And there's not much on the market.
There's a new generation of inexpensive large multi touch screen monitors (Dell, etc) which works with cameras on the side of the screen but I don't know how well they are performing.
