    Default is it worth $25?

Is it worth $25 for an old -functional- pioneer laserdisc player, to scavenge the laser and the associated optics?

What type/color/strength laser would I get out of it?

If it is the model i believe it to be,
That laserdisk player will have a 1mW Helium Neon gas laser tube in it.
they run on high voltage (low amp) power source that would give you a nasty shock if you touched any of the terminals.
if it is the laserdisk player im thinking about i would go for it.

EDIT: Does it look like this http://images03.olx.com.ph/ui/5/47/1...isc-Movies.jpg

I don't think it would be worth $25 for a 1mW hene but thats just me

it might be a goldmine of parts if you like desoldering lol

Put another Antique item on the shelf...perhaps...
    Nostalgia perhaps...
If the Laser works it will have GREAT beam specs...

    I'd take it for $25.00...

Exclamation Check the model number and manufacture date before buying

Double check it has a HeNe first... I have three laserdisc players in my barn that are all IR diodes... The older ones have a really nice PBS cube for combining reds that alone is worth $25. But do check the model number!

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Hey, for 25 bux, its an experimenters goldmine. your going to have motors, optics, probably one of those neat cheap galvo driven mirror sets, power supply parts, its worth it even if its only a 1 mw He-Ne. Course I love tearing apart stuff to see what makes it go.
