    Default Rapatronic Shutter

I stumbled on this page today, a very interesting electronic shutter developed to photograph atomic bomb explosions. The shutter can operate at 20uS.

Besides an interesting bit of history and some cool explosion photos, the concept of using an electro-magnetic field this way has me thinking...

Sure, it's a kerr cell witch is very similar to a pockels cell used in laser q-switching.

It was on hack-a-day, which seems to kill sites that aren't used to mega-hits/day. Pretty interesting.

You might want to research what material was really, really used, and its not what is in Wiki or the Strobe Alley site. FELCD was NOT a Kerr. Just sayin....

Final version given to some fighter- bomber crews was simply a eye patch. Burn one, switch to the other.

Hmmm, Just looked and every other site says it's a Kerr cell. I haven't ever seen another device mentioned. They could be hiding something though.

you say LCD but I don't think that's nearly fast enough. I may be wrong though.
