Default QS 2.0 show creation with quick timeline issues

    Hello,

i have been playing with the Quick Timeline in my Quickshow version 2.0 build 294 and find it very hard to align cues to the events in the music.

    What i miss:
I would like to have the ability to set multiple alignments during playback of a song to identify the spots where i want to insert the cues.

    Problem:
When i replay the show, i have to move the cues a lot to get things aligned. It even seems that if i move something and replay a part it doesn't match even if i just performed the changes. I keep moving cues to get them to match and sometimes it works but most of the time i keep shuffling them around.

Is there a way to more accurately place cues on the timeline to match events in the audio file? The graphic representation of the wavefile was my first guess but aligning is very difficult.

Have you altered the snap to magnet settings?

If not turn it to off to allow infinite adjustment.

Hi, thanks for replying, yes i turned off the magnet to allow smooth placement.
The thing is that it is hard to pinpoint the moment where you want the cue to be placed and once you put it there and replay from a second or se before to see if it is in the correct spot it isn't and you realign it and replay etc... during playback it would be helpfull if you could mark the exact spot.

Try zooming in on the timeline.

Witht he magnet set to off, you should find very accurate placement possible if you zoom in. The mroe you zoom the timeline the smaller the increments become with regards to placement.

As for marking the exact place, easiest way is to stop the play cursor over the point where you want to introduce the new cue, as it has a visible line that reaches all of the way down through the timeline.

exactly my aproach, have been playing all afternoon and after stopping the song, looking where the marker stopped, putting a cue at that spot, moving the pointer a few seconds back, playing it again to see if i put it correctly and then it is somehow not the right place. Sometimes even a second off.

Perhaps i can create a screen capture with video/audio to show it, have to look for capture software for win7, any suggestions?
I can upload the file to the ftp server so you can see what i mean.

Camstudio is free however, it does have some limitations:

    eg

It works best with its own lossless codec but some video editors can't import the format

Also, it starts to lag behind the audio after a while so files are best kept very short

Maybe we should ask Bill to add a feature where you can tap the beat during the music is played and markers are placed. I know everybody says Quickshow is for live stuff, but it would be a handy feature (that other software has already).
Why not make Quickshow even better ?
    I didn't fail !
I just found out 10,000 ways that didn't work.

That's a really good idea provided you could switch it on and off.

In a word Beyond. Bill wants QS to have limitations so it doesn't compete with Beyond.

That's why its deliberately quite basic on the creation side of things. Whether or not your suggestion would fall into the QS or Beyond catgeories or even both I don't know. However, its worth suggesting.
