tramming is the process of making your z axis perfectly square to the x and y axis. If it is not square you will not get smooth cuts and it makes fly cutting especially more difficult. Tramming is a well documented process for these mini mills so a short seek should help you out.

Most of these little machines have steel gibs......replace them with brass. This will help a lot....just lap them before installation. A blanchard grinder would help speed the process... Also if the post assy. that holds the head is hollow...they can be filled with structure grade filler and epoxy to stiff it up a good bit...I am going to machine a post from solid stock for my machine....just two dovetail cuts and a rack gear to cut. CNC to be done this spring...Mach 3 is good enough for home machine work....plus you can import most common files easily.

    Default Milling

    Guys
Will this do the trick for most milling and lathe work when creating laser parts? I am considering getting one? it got great reviews from everyone who bought one.

    Default Milling continued

    When they say
MILL has the capacity to mill a facing diameter of 2-1/2" and a milling diameter of 3/4"

Does this mean you can only do a facing diameter of 2- 1/2" and a milling diameter of 3/4" or does that mean on one pass another wards you could do mulitiple passes to get more diameter? It seems this would be enough for most parts I was also thinking of flexure mounts it does not seem the guy who made those nice compact mounts is offering them any more.

i thought that we needed something small and tiny.. micro mounts, micro everything

i know 3mm chick is the same as a hand held dremel, but maybe it is up to more delicate work
