    Chech this Archimedes solar death ray made from mirror ball mirrors!

    Pretty cool, but I have no idea what I would use this for, perhaps lighting a BBQ?

    ....and Erics project is the one next to the burning cheerleaders.

    Pretty impressive thoughwhen it can burn through metal. Wonder about UV levels though.

    You can get large, extremely dangerous solar collectors for free these days. The "free" section on Craigslist lists quite a few big screen projection tv's whose owners don't want to have to pay to get rid of. With a truck and a friend, and a little disassembly elbow grease, you get a pile of gorgeous optics (At least with CRT type TV's), a giant sheet of first surface mirror (cheap/free source for bounce mirrors) and a VERY large fresnel lens the size of the screen. Did I mention that it's extremely dangerous? I did? Well, it bears repeating: It's EXTREMELY dangerous when used as a solar collector.

    They're not front surface mirrors, so the light has to pass through glass before and after being reflected. Glass is a very poor transmitter of UVB

    I bet aluminum foil would be easier and give similar results since the surface might be smoother with less gaps and less material for the light to travel through.
