Default Electronics designers/tinkers: fancy a competion?

Hackaday announced this comp a few weeks ago, I am thinking of entering myself.

The prizes are pretty cool, should be fun!

Simply design a project around an LM555 timer or timers.

I had thought of using an LM555 as the basis for a self oscillating Class-D audio amplifier. I had the basic design in my head and when I searched for prior works someone has already done this! Bugger! Back to the drawing board...

A labour saving device for women; something that shocks your balls at exactly 3 minute intervals to save them from having to break them?

Yes the 555 has been ... done. By many many people much much smarter than me.

I have a few ideas still. Looking for an idea to enter in the Art category, I plan to build discrete 555's.

Steve reaches for his ancient copy of the TAB Books 555 Timer Applications Handbook, ~125 PAGES of 555 timer stuff, complete with binding covered in black electrical tape fro wear and tear.... Easy win....

Incorporate an ambient temp sensor and a product selector knob for an epoxy warning timer.

I have to say, with the competition closing in just days, I am out of the competition. Too many other projects on the go not to mention work and a sick wife.

Check this out, an analog composite video game with just 23 LM555's.

Perhaps what you really need is to devote some time to creating a 555 device that can help allocate your time between said projects and nursing sick wife (assuming you didn't just mean she has a colourful vocabulary and/or 'interesting' habits...)

I need more than a 555 timer to do that! My problem is that my working day spans GMT+11 to GMT+1. At the moment I am in the office from 5am to 10pm... Shits me.

It appears I would not have been the only submitting a discrete LM555 project...
