    What is it?
It looks like an laser diode with the crystal directly ontop????
It reminds me of an broken led as if it was smashed like it's glass.
    *wondering*

An Osram 515nm, 50mW direct injection green laser diode.
Set to scale up to mass-production in 2012

    Awesome photo...

It wouldn't surprise me if its a Nichia die. I think that's the story with the Osram blues..

For display purposes. I am not counting on divergence being any better than the common garden variety 445...

I'm going to read a bit about direct injection modules and seek for information.
On my iphone and read just before I'm going to sleep.
I haven't looked into these diodes yet, but I already heard they are coming.

What is the advantage of these direct injection diodes?

    LOL.... A LOT!

    1. Not DPSS
    2. Smaller package than DPSS
    3. better wavelength than 532nm
    4. Less noise
    5. better linearity

    Just to name a few....

    Cons...
Divergence, beam profile and power yet to be seen.

    Sound great.
but why is the output power low?
is it because it's really really new?

Will it be cheaper then currrently availiable diodes?
