Default Are there any programs similar to TraceIT?

    Hello Everyone,

1st I want to say, This community has the most information on the web hands down.
    Thank you for that.

I'm curious if there's software that does the same thing as TraceIT but cheaper. I'm just getting started and can't come close to swinging the Pangolin stuff. I've googled the hell out of it too. There's not a lot of info out there. I keep redirecting back to here.

    Thanks Again

There are some alternatives, however I doubt they have as many features as trace-it

anyway on a topic called sergeys soft on one of the last pages sergey posted a free tracer.
Secondly you could go for lasercam by drlava.

Do you want to convert one image, a bunch of images, or an entire animation?
Does it have to be in color ?

Back in the old days, I used a free raster to .ttf font converter to transfer logos to .ttf.
Then I used anarchy to convert them to .ild.
Only white, and one frame at a time, but absolutely free and pretty good results.

Hey Bart, I'm just getting into it so I'm learning the possibilities. I was thinking about converting one image then realized it might be possible to convert a whole animation.

MasterPJ pointed out some alternatives. I'm liking the look of Sergey's collection of apps. Gonna spend some time with them.

I'm a VJ/projectionist/lighting guy. I'm learning VPT(video mapping). Ultimately, I want to sync up a projected image with it's laser counterpart and do fades between them.

Sweet! Yeah, that's basically what I'm trying to get to but by syncing separate systems.

I can only imagine what something like that would run.

One of my next projects is a DIY fog screen cause they start around $20,000.

    Thank you for the info.

SMPTE time code is a possibility for the video sync. Pangolin supports it with a small add on box.

If you can trigger the thingy by keystroke, then just write a simple vb app that reads out your set time.
then set the time a few minutes ahead *but the same* on all systems.
    Voila and it's in sync.

    SMTPE timecode also works.
I also use SMPTE timecodes for timings in 3ds max

Trace-it usually wins on price, other stuff like UTOPIA is mondo expensive.

Pangolin's software has some built in functions.

There is a nearly free alternative using some of Dr Lava's tools, and SVG file formats, but it can be time consuming.
