I actually watched the full documentary that these clips were taken from the other night. In it they claim that the Earth went threw at least 6 of these "total evaporation" impact events in it's early life. Even more amazing is that they believe microbial life could have survived such an event deep under ground. Interesting stuff if your into that kinda thing.
